Bole is a thick, dense mixture composed of very fine clay and rabbit glue dissolved in water. Ready for use. Apply warm after slight heating in a double boiler to obtain the right fluidity for use. The color of the Bole has an influence on gilding tone because it seeps through the leaf, creating different glints.
